Sleep Difficulties in Adults

Occasional restless nights are common — but when difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking unrefreshed continues for weeks, it can affect your mood, focus, energy, and physical health. Persistent insomnia is a medical concern that often benefits from professional evaluation rather than another over-the-counter remedy.

At CJ Medical Center, Carlos Jimenez, DNP, PMHNP-C, ADHD-CCSP, FNP-C provides telehealth evaluation and treatment for adults experiencing sleep difficulties. As a provider board-certified in psychiatric-mental health and family practice, he evaluates how sleep interacts with stress, mood, medications, and daily habits.

Your care begins with an individualized evaluation, so recommendations reflect your history, current health, and goals — not a generic sleep protocol.

Common Sleep Concerns

Your initial visit is a comprehensive review of the factors that may be affecting your sleep, including:

Sleep patterns

Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, waking too early, or unrefreshing sleep — and how long it has been going on.

Daytime impact

Fatigue, concentration problems, irritability, and how poor sleep affects your work and relationships.

Mental and emotional health

Anxiety, depression, stress, and racing thoughts are closely connected to sleep quality and are reviewed as part of your evaluation.

Current medications and substances

Some medications, caffeine, alcohol, and other substances can interfere with sleep. Your provider reviews what you are taking.

Habits and routines

Sleep schedule, screen use, work hours, and evening routines that may be contributing to the problem.

Whether further evaluation is needed

Some sleep concerns — such as possible sleep apnea — may require testing or referral outside the scope of a telehealth visit. Your provider will let you know if that applies to you.

How Sleep and Mental Health Are Connected

Sleep affects mood

Poor sleep can worsen anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation — and those conditions can in turn disrupt sleep.

Treat the whole picture

Because sleep and mental health influence each other, your evaluation considers both rather than treating insomnia in isolation.

Set realistic expectations

Improvement is usually gradual. Your provider works with you on achievable goals rather than promising instant results.

Decide on a plan

If treatment is appropriate, you receive an individualized plan aligned with your evaluation. An evaluation does not guarantee a diagnosis or any specific treatment.

Individualized Treatment Planning

Sleep treatment at CJ Medical Center focuses on sustainable, medically informed strategies. Depending on your evaluation, your individualized plan may include the following components. None of these are mandatory for every patient — all treatment decisions are made by your provider based on your individual situation:

  • Review of your sleep history, habits, and contributing health factors
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and sleep hygiene guidance, when clinically appropriate and available for your location
  • Strategies addressing stress, mood, or anxiety that may affect sleep
  • Medication may be considered as part of an individualized plan when clinically appropriate and permitted by applicable regulations — prescriptions are not guaranteed
  • Coordination with other healthcare providers when needed
  • Referral for sleep studies or additional testing when clinically indicated
  • Regular follow-up visits to monitor progress and adjust your plan

Follow-Up and Ongoing Care

Sleep improvement is a process, not a single visit. Follow-up appointments allow your provider to track how you respond to your plan, address setbacks, and make adjustments over time. If medication is ever part of your plan, regular follow-up is important for safe monitoring. When a sleep concern falls outside the scope of telehealth, your provider will discuss appropriate next steps or referral options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can insomnia be treated through telehealth?

Many aspects of insomnia care — evaluation, behavioral guidance, and medication management when appropriate — can be provided through secure video visits. Some conditions, such as suspected sleep apnea, may require testing or referral beyond a telehealth visit.

Do you offer Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)?

Yes. CJ Medical Center offers CBT-I as part of individualized care for eligible adults located in Nevada, Utah, Washington, and Arizona. Your provider will determine whether this approach is appropriate for your needs.

Can sleep treatment include medication?

Medication may be considered as part of an individualized plan when clinically appropriate. Your provider will review your health history, current medications, and applicable requirements before recommending treatment. A prescription is not guaranteed.

Do you diagnose or treat sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea typically requires objective testing, such as a sleep study, which is not performed through a telehealth visit. If your evaluation suggests sleep apnea or another condition requiring in-person testing, your provider will discuss referral options with you.

How much does it cost?

The initial evaluation is $179 and follow-up visits are $79 with transparent self-pay pricing. Insurance is accepted in select states — please verify your coverage with us before scheduling.

Will my sleep problem be fixed in one visit?

No specific outcome or timeline can be promised. Most sleep improvement is gradual and depends on your individual situation, health factors, and how you respond to your plan.

Do you treat children or adolescents for sleep problems?

No. CJ Medical Center provides services exclusively for adults 18 years of age and older.

In case of emergency: CJ Medical Center is not an emergency or crisis service. If you or someone you know is in crisis or experiencing a medical emergency, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.
