HIV Care for Adults

Living with HIV today means managing a chronic condition with regular clinical oversight — treatment adherence, laboratory monitoring, preventive care, and coordination with specialists when needed. Consistent, informed care matters more than heroic interventions.

At CJ Medical Center, Carlos Jimenez, DNP, PMHNP-C, ADHD-CCSP, FNP-C offers telehealth evaluation and ongoing clinical support for adults 18 and older living with HIV — including health monitoring, care coordination, and follow-up within the scope of telehealth.

What this service covers for you depends on your evaluation, your treatment history, and your location. Complex HIV management, treatment initiation, and specialized care are coordinated with or referred to infectious disease specialists when appropriate — this service does not replace specialist HIV care.

When to Schedule an HIV Care Visit

A telehealth visit may be appropriate for adults living with HIV in situations such as the following. Needs outside the scope of telehealth are referred to appropriate care.

Initial clinical evaluation

Review of your HIV history, current treatment, laboratory results, and overall health to determine what level of care fits your situation.

Established treatment check-ins

Follow-up for adults stable on their current regimen who benefit from regular clinical oversight and monitoring.

Treatment questions and adherence

Discussing how your current treatment is working, side effects, or challenges staying on schedule.

Preventive health

Related health maintenance — screening discussions, mental health concerns, and conditions that commonly accompany HIV care.

Coordination needs

When your care involves multiple providers, your provider can help organize records, referrals, and communication.

When specialist care is needed

New diagnoses, treatment changes, resistance concerns, or complex presentations are referred to infectious disease specialists — with your provider supporting coordination.

Your Initial Clinical Evaluation

History and records review

Your provider reviews your diagnosis, treatment history, current medications, and available laboratory results — bring recent records if you have them.

Current health assessment

Discussion of how you are doing on your current regimen, any symptoms or side effects, and your broader physical and mental health.

Monitoring review

Your provider reviews your laboratory monitoring needs — such as viral load and CD4 tracking — and identifies any gaps in your care.

Plan and next steps

You receive individualized recommendations — follow-up scheduling, laboratory coordination, or referral to specialists when appropriate.

Treatment, Monitoring & Coordination

HIV treatment decisions — including antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation, continuation, or changes — are made based on your individual evaluation and clinical circumstances. Depending on your situation, your care through this service may include some of the following:

  • Evaluation and review of your current HIV treatment
  • Ongoing clinical monitoring and follow-up visits
  • Coordination of laboratory monitoring — including viral load and CD4 testing — when clinically indicated
  • Medication review within the scope of your evaluation and applicable requirements — prescriptions are never guaranteed
  • Preventive health screening and management of related conditions
  • Mental health evaluation and support when appropriate
  • Referral to and coordination with infectious disease specialists for treatment initiation, changes, or complex care

Medication Management and Follow-Up

HIV care is built on consistency. Follow-up visits allow your provider to review how your treatment is working, discuss laboratory results, address side effects or adherence challenges, and coordinate ongoing monitoring. When your clinical needs exceed telehealth scope — including ART initiation or modification, complex presentations, or in-person procedures — your provider will discuss referral to infectious disease specialists or in-person care. This service supports your care; it does not replace specialist HIV treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can HIV be managed through telehealth?

Many aspects of ongoing HIV care — clinical check-ins, monitoring review, medication discussions, and care coordination — can be addressed through secure video visits. In-person evaluation, procedures, and specialist consultations are referred out when needed.

Will you start or change my HIV medication?

Antiretroviral therapy decisions depend on your individual evaluation and clinical circumstances. Treatment initiation or modification is handled according to your provider’s assessment and may involve coordination with or referral to infectious disease specialists. A prescription is never guaranteed.

Do you order laboratory tests like viral load or CD4?

Laboratory monitoring is a core part of HIV care. When clinically indicated, your provider will discuss what monitoring is appropriate and how testing is coordinated — testing itself is performed by laboratories, not during the video visit.

Is this service a substitute for an infectious disease specialist?

No. This service provides telehealth evaluation, monitoring, coordination, and follow-up. Complex HIV care, treatment initiation or changes, and specialized needs are referred to infectious disease specialists — with your provider supporting coordination.

Is my information private?

Your visits use a private, secure platform and standard healthcare privacy practices apply to your records.

How much does a visit cost?

Contact us to confirm the right visit type and current pricing for your situation. Insurance is accepted in select states — please verify your coverage before scheduling.

Do you provide this care for minors?

No. CJ Medical Center provides services exclusively for adults 18 years of age and older.

In case of emergency: CJ Medical Center is not an emergency or crisis service. If you or someone you know is in crisis or experiencing a medical emergency, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.
